In literacy this term we are learning to work independently to complete reading and writing activities during guided reading groups. We have guided reading groups every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9-10 am. Here are some of the activities - magnetic letters, writing, reading, spelling and listening post. Mrs Taylor is very proud of us!
KT and Mrs Taylor are excited to be back at school and ready for a busy term with lots of great learning!
Here's what's happening in Term 3? Monday - Library, HSIE (Meeting Needs) with Mrs Stevens Tuesday - Sport Wednesday - Science (What's Alive) Homework Thursday - K-2 Assembly (even weeks) Friday - Music and Drama with Mrs Stevens Important dates - K-2 Sports Carnival - Tuesday 16th August Kindergarten Excursion - Tuesday 13th September Don't forget to bring your home reading every day. Some of KT are up to 100 readers! Wow! Keep up the great reading KT! This term KT have been learning all about 2D shapes. We have been naming, exploring and making 2D shapes. We practised drawing 2D shapes on the smart BOARD, made them with construction straws and used shapes to make pictures! We enjoyed making rockets and shape monsters using 2D shapes! Can you see what shapes we used? Our buddies helped us find a 2D shape in the environment and we took a photo of it using an iPad. We used an app called 'ChatterPix' which turns pictures into talking pictures so when we drew a mouth on our shape and described it to our buddy it could talk! It was so much fun! Thank you buddies for helping us! Our Science unit this term is called 'On the Move'. We have been learning about the different ways we can move our bodies. We made a skeleton that could move and learnt a dance called 'Dance and Freeze'. We also brought in a special toy from home and identified and described the parts which made the toy move. Then we sorted our toys into different groups. Do you know how we sorted our toys? Can you name the different groups of toys? On Monday 21st March our school celebrated Harmony Day. Kindergarten learnt about these different countries - Vietnam, China and Fiji. Mrs Taylor let us dress up in a sarong and we wore leis and shell necklaces. We all drew different faces on a handprint to celebrate differences and diversity in Australia. Then we made a beautiful rainbow with our handprints. This week we learnt how to play a new game in our TEN time. It is called 'Ladybug Roll and Cover'. Mrs Taylor loves this game because she can differentiate it for us! We can play this game by matching dot patterns on a dice, adding 2 dot dice to find out how many dots altogether or by rolling 1 number and 1 dot dice to practise our counting on strategy. We also think that the ladybugs are very cute!
This week we met our buddy class. Our buddy class is the fabulous 5M with Mrs McAlister. We all got to choose a year 5 buddy and then they helped us make our Easter basket. Thank you 5M and Mrs McAlister we had a great time and hope you visit us again soon! Every day KT do Number of the Day. We choose a number and see how many ways we can make or show that number using lots of different maths equipment. Today we were learning all about number 6. It is lots of fun learning about numbers! Today we participated in our very first Easter Hat parade. We all had a fantastic time and Mrs Taylor said our Easter hats looked amazing! When we got back to our classroom we got a huge surprise to see bunny footprints everywhere! The Easter Bunny had visited and left us some yummy chocolate Easter eggs! We also had fun making a cute paper plate rabbit! On Thursday our school held a mufti day to raise money for Westmead Children's Hospital. We loved wearing our pyjamas to school and bringing our favourite teddy or soft toy. Mrs Taylor was very excited as our school raised over $400 dollars for the hospital. Well done St Marys North! A fantastic effort by everyone! |
